Adventure Awaits!

Pearl of the day: Legendary Memories
X Marks The Spot

As the cold rages on and cabin fever sets in Einstein’s pearl “Imagination is more than Knowledge” is prancing about in my mind.

When I was younger, I’d say younger than 5, I was at a sleepover with my cousin and in the wee hours of the morning we had a brilliant idea. We needed to go out and search for monsters.  They were out there all right. We let ourselves out of the house (unbeknownst to my aunt) and headed for the forest (backyard).

The next part of the tale is told second hand from my aunt who awoke to no kids in her house, totally beyond panicked, and a few hours later, saw a police car coming with my young partner and crime and I bopping away in the backseat of the police car. She was very thankful my cousin knew her home address!

Did I learn my lesson? Was that the last time I went out in search of monsters? Not by a long shot. I was always seeking out adventures and dove in head first to whatever it was I did.

Yet, it was always more fun to have fellow adventurers, whom have varied over the years to create the stories of legends. Somehow this role of fellow explorers has morphed into my children who  are finding compadres all on their own.

I look into the eyes of my innocent little children and try to see the world they way they do. My son is going to save the galaxy and my girl may just be fluttering with the fairies to paint the flowers and butterflies.  Actually, she'd be the fairy queen, crown, wand and all.

Sometimes they just get that gleam in their eyes and my inner child is going “yeah, I like where you are going with this kid” but then the parental inner voice of mine goes "uh, oh" and begins to question whether to go with or squash the plan. Do I tear up the treasure map, lay his toy weapons to arms and say “there are no such thing as fairies”?
Usually my inner child wins out as it is so fun to let them take the lead, follow along and try to step into their imaginary play worlds. I am amazed at just how graphic and into it they get. They’ve got this whole universe going on which is a great break from our scheduled, matter of fact, “reality based” concrete lives.

Like Eric Delabarre’s pearl in his new book “Saltwater Taffy”, “every moment is an adventure waiting to happen.”

Carpe Diem!!
