Pearl of the Day: Sip of Life
Audra Moran, Me, my Girl & Kelly Ripa |
With time flying the way it does I’m thinking of the pearl “Don’t count every hour in the day, make every hour in the day count.” (anonymous)
Such is my mantra for the time spent with my children – most of the time. In the midst of our busy schedules carving special time away with your children becomes priceless quests. If Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet can vow to “make it count” in the mega-film Titanic (1997) when we know that ship is going down, we can bring it home to every day.
We received an invitation via Skimbaco Lifestyle to attend a Tea Party at the Eloise Shop at New York City’s infamous Plaza Hotel hosted by Kelly Ripa and sponsored by Electrolux. The mother-daughter event kicked off a special effort in support of the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund (OCRF) initiative to help find a cure.
What an invitation. Warrants a dress. Ugh. While I dislike wearing dresses, for my daughter, I will enter her princess world in style. Admittedly, I was and in many ways still am a tomboy but the sweetness of a tea party and dressing up my daughter brought tears to my eyes. Particularly when she gasped and said, "mommy, you look beautiful." Before I had a daughter I envisioned days like this.
It was a beautiful New York morning when we approached the Plaza and my daughter and I marveled at how beautiful the building is and we reminisced about the days we shared in Central Park. With her in my arms we entered.
My daughter was treated like royalty at the Eloise Shop and I was on a mommy high. Until Kelly Ripa shared how she lost a close friend to Ovarian Cancer and supports the OCRF so hopefully “our daughter’s will never know the words Ovarian Cancer.”
Tea Service |
This popped my little fairytale bubble I had going on in my mind and brought me back to all the more importance of spending days like this with my children. You just never know what is waiting out there for them or you.
With all the things you have to worry about as a parent and that our children have to brave in this world, the shimmer of hope that Ovarian Cancer, which can rob a woman of her gifts of womanhood, or any cancer for that matter, which shatters the dreams of families like teacups, can be obsolete in her lifetime would be an unbelievable sigh of relief and take one thing off the roulette table!
Until that time, be sure to savor those precious moments and honor your reservations for tea while your table is full.
Full Disclosure: "My participation in the ‘Chari-Tea Party’ Campaign was sponsored by Electrolux who provided me with transportation arrangements to and from New York City to participate."
