Frozen

Pearl: True Love Thaws

My family was so excited to attend a screening of Disney's latest animated princess film "Frozen" which struck my heart with the Isadora James pearl "A sister is a gift to the heart, a friend to the spirit, a golden thread to the meaning of life."

Indeed, my sister was and remains the greatest gift my parents ever bestowed onto me. We are both so alike and vastly different people and only sometimes wear the same outfit.

Adapted from Hans Christan Anderson's book "The Snow Queen" and inspired by Norway, Frozen plays upon the complex bonds of sisterhood in a beautiful and heart melting way.

The love story between the princess sisters of Arendale, the fearless Anna (Kristen Bell) and the snow powered Elsa (Idina Menzel), spawns from a close childhood into a cold spell after (SPOILER ALERT) an unfortunate life threatening incident.

The King and Queen decided that the best way to deal with their daughter Elsa's gift is to conceal it and her forever. Parents often draw the curtains in a hear no evil, see no evil manner to protect their children. Elsa's parents fail to embrace the beauty of their daughter's natural abilities and guide her into a world of denial.

Staying frozen accomplishes nothing yet the King and Queen turn to isolating Elsa and trying to turn her feelings cold. The sister's relationship is frozen behind the gates of their castle.
The Snow Queen

As the princesses come of age and their parents (SPOILER ALERT) lose themselves to the sea, it's up to the sisters to save their land which Elsa, now the Queen, accidentally turned into an eternal winter.

Once Elsa is unleashed she magically comes alive, drops her fear and creates the most strikingly beautiful icy Nordic landscapes ever animated.

Meanwhile, Anna who is desperate to rekindle her connection falls easily and naively in "love". Anna who refuses to stay frozen, sets off to find her isolated sister with the help of Kristoff (Jonathon Groff) and his trusty steed of a reindeer Sven who relishes in the winter wonderland and Olaf (Josh Gad), who innocently melts your heart in every scene.

The princess sisters find themselves when they re-find eachother preempting all boy/girl relationships.  This is the heart of the story and such a welcome departure from the history of Disney films where women are pining away waiting for their prince.

While the boys play important roles in the film the golden gems are the sisters who save eachother and themselves by refusing to stay frozen!!  And while my sister and I's relationship has made room for hubby's, kids, cats and dogs, our bond forever remains my first true love.

My family loved the film and we'll likely watch it like a 1000 more times. The music is awesome and is on endless play via Spotify. :)

  1. Continuing on the high note for which the Frozen Soundtrack has been, Frozen has had a remarkable explosion upon popular culture. I mean, "Let It Go", you know every single word and either prefer the Official Disney Video of the song or are obsessed with The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon's and The Roots School Class rendition performed with Idina Menzel and you've probably hosted a Frozen sing along with your playgroup and discovered your John Travolta rename. Amazing. Disney done good and it's headed to Broadway. See you back real soon.
